Non-Metallic Expansion Joints

Flexi-Duct Fabric Expansion Joints

Thorburn's Flexi-Duct Gas Seal Membrane absorbs thermal growth and movements of a ducting system while containing internal pressures and media.

Design Considerations

Flex Test
Flex test done to ISO-7854-1984, 30,600 cycles per hour - failure occurred after 4.5 million cycles

Cyclic Test
Design pressure/temperature with simultaneous axial and lateral movement to specified cycles

Tensile Test
Tensile testing is more meaningful after cycle, chemical and flexing tests.

Thermal Chemical Stability

While meeting mechanical requirements, the membrane
must perform in severe heat, weather, and chemically
hostile environments.
Air Pollution and Fume Control.

Flexibility

Exceptionally strong reinforcing materials allow thinner
membranes to optimize flexing capabilities.
Superior coating adhesion resists delamination
during high stress.

Thorburn Flexi-Duct Series

Designed for high temperatures up to 1800°F

The Gas Seal Membrane absorbs thermal growth amd movements of a ducting system while containing internal
pressures and media

A: Gas Seal Membrane Withstands movements, temperature, thermal and chemical attack from the interior and exterior.
B: Backup Bars Provides clamping pressure to create fabric-to-duct seal.
C: Insulating Retainer Layer Keeps stand-alone insulating layers in place to maintain thermal integrity during expansion and contraction.
D: Insulating Layers Provides stand-alone thermal protection for the gas seal membrane.
E: Gasket Protects gas seal membrane from hot attachment flanges and backup bars.
F: Attachment Flanges Designed to connect the flexible element to the duct work and establish stand-off height.
G: Flexible Thermal & Buildup Barrier A secondary fly ash and thermal barrier prevents buildup and reduces the harmful effects of condensation.
H: Telescopic Liner Protects gas seal membrane and flexible insulation layers from abrasive media particles, reduces flutter and particulate buildup.
I: Fly Ash Barrier Designed to deter fly ash buildup in the expansion joint cavity.
